World Bank finances Turkey with 600 million dollars
The World Bank announced that it has approved a $600 million financing facility to support Turkey’s efforts to strengthen its resilience to floods and drought.
The World Bank Board of Executive Directors today approved a $600 million financing facility to support Turkey’s efforts to strengthen its resilience and protect its people against floods and droughts, which are increasing in frequency and severity due to climate change.
More than 150,000 people living in seven flood-prone river basins will directly benefit from the flood control component of the project, while 10,000 farmers will receive vital drought monitoring data, including real-time data to help them better manage water stress.
Humberto Lopez, World Bank Country Director for Turkey, said, “Turkey is increasingly recognizing the importance of taking action against climate change. The World Bank is pleased to support Turkey’s far-reaching efforts to build resilience to climate-related risks to protect its people and economy and achieve its goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2053.”
