European businesses complain about high energy prices

The European Business Confederation (BusinessEurope) complained about the energy price gap between the European Union (EU) and the US and China. “High energy prices continue to severely hamper the global competitiveness and industrial production of European companies,” said Markus Beyrer, Director General of BusinessEurope.

BusinessEurope has published a study on how to strengthen the EU’s competitiveness in its energy and climate-friendly transformation.

The study states that unless urgent measures are taken, the energy price gap between Europe and other regions will widen further.

The study said that a more competitive energy and climate transition is still possible, but that EU bodies need to act quickly in the new era.

“Even in the case of a controlled transition with more supportive EU energy policies, energy costs in Europe are expected to be at least 50 percent higher than in the US, China and India by 2050,” the study said.
