Chinese company replaces Siemens at Akkuyu
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar stated that Siemens’ delaying the parts required for the Akkuyu NPP has delayed the project and that there should be a response. Bayraktar also emphasized that the LNG agreement between BOTAŞ and Shell is important in terms of diversity.
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar announced that Rosatom has ordered critical equipment for Akkuyu to China due to Siemens AG’s delay in exporting similar equipment.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Minister Bayraktar said that the delay in delivery had the effect of delaying the project by several months. “There is a decision taken with a political attitude on an issue that has no legal basis,” he said, adding that complaints about this situation had been voiced at the highest level. “If the aim is to impose sanctions on Russia, Turkey and the project in Turkey are also harmed,” Bayraktar said.
Explaining that Rosatom is also looking for alternatives in the face of this situation, Bayraktar pointed to Siemens’ investments in Turkey and said, “It is one of the companies we have been working with for many years and it has put us in a process where we have to question their existence very seriously. Rosatom, which has undertaken the construction, has already placed an alternative order for this product in China and the product will come from there.”
The equipment will be used in the nuclear switchyard to transfer the energy generated at the $24 billion Akkuyu power plant to the system.
