Eyüp Sabri Tuncer Faces EU Recall Over Banned Substance in Pre-2022 Products

Amazon Warns Consumers and Initiates Return Process as EU Identifies Harmful Chemical in Older Eyüp Sabri Tuncer Products

The well-established Turkish cologne brand Eyüp Sabri Tuncer has recently made headlines due to the European Union’s (EU) ’emergency recall’ decision. The EU identified a banned substance in some Eyüp Sabri Tuncer products manufactured before 2022 and requested these products be withdrawn from the market. The brand’s Chairman of the Board, Engin Tuncer, clarified that this decision pertains only to products produced before 2022.

Following the decision, Amazon sent warning emails to consumers who purchased Eyüp Sabri Tuncer products. The email advised consumers to immediately stop using the products and highlighted the potential risk of ‘chemical poisoning’. Amazon emphasized that this information should also be shared with others.

The European Commission announced that the banned substance “2-(4-tert-butylbenzyl) propionaldehyde (BMHCA)” was detected in Eyüp Sabri Tuncer products. This substance is reported to damage the reproductive system and poses a particular risk to pregnant women. The recall decision applies to products manufactured before March 2022. The list includes many products such as “Bodrum Mandalini,” “Klasik Limon,” “Gardenya,” “Love Kisses,” and “Okyanus.” This decision affects not only Eyüp Sabri Tuncer but also many other well-known cosmetic brands containing the same substance.

Engin Tuncer, Chairman of the Board of Eyüp Sabri Tuncer, emphasized that the decision concerns only older products. He stated that the brand has fully complied with the EU regulations as of March 2022 and has not used the banned substance in products manufactured after this date. Tuncer said, “We have not used this substance in our products since March 2022. Products manufactured before March 2022 were freely used worldwide at that time.” He also cautioned about misleading information circulating on social media and stressed that their brand has never acted against cosmetic regulations in Turkey and worldwide.

Tuncer noted that following the ban, not only their company but also retailers have subjected these products to a return process and initiated a recall. The brand emphasized that the process of recalling products manufactured before March 2022 has been started and maintains its commitment to product safety and legal compliance. Eyüp Sabri Tuncer affirmed that, with its 100 years of experience, it will continue to protect health and nature.
