Hybrid models increased their share the most in automotive

According to data from the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), hybrid models increased their market share the most in the January-September period. Compared to the same period last year, the share of hybrid models in the market increased by nearly 6 points and exceeded 16 percent. The share of diesels, on the other hand, declined to around 10 percent.

According to the engine type of the automobile market; in the first 9 months, gasoline car sales had a share of 63.6 percent with 427 thousand 998 units, hybrid car sales had a share of 16.4 percent with 110 thousand 225 units, diesel car sales had a share of 10.6 percent with 71 thousand 326 units, electric car sales had a share of 8.7 percent with 58 thousand 638 units and autogas car sales had a share of 0.7 percent with 4 thousand 886 units.

Looking at the January-September period data, it was seen that gasoline vehicle sales decreased by 4.2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. Gasoline vehicles continued to hold the largest share with 446 thousand 546 sales in the first 9 months. However, the share of gasoline vehicles this year decreased by 3.4 points from 67 percent to 63.6 percent.

In the same period, diesel vehicle sales dropped from 102 thousand 160 units to 71 thousand 326 units, contracting by 30.2 percent. The share of diesel vehicles, which was 15.3 percent in the previous period, decreased by 4.7 points to 10.8 percent. On the other hand, sales of autogas (LPG) vehicles decreased by 34.2 percent to 4 thousand 886 units. The market share of autogas vehicles, which was 1.1 percent in the previous year, decreased to 0.7 percent in 2024.

In 2024, there was a remarkable increase in hybrid vehicle sales. Total hybrid vehicle sales, which was 71 thousand 326 in the same period of the previous year, increased by 53.7 percent to 110 thousand 225 units. The share of hybrid cars, which was 10.8 percent in the previous year, increased to 16.4 percent in 2024.

In this period, electric vehicle sales increased by 50.2 percent from 39 thousand 51 to 58 thousand 638. The share of electric vehicles, which was 5.9 percent in the previous year, increased by 2.7 points to 8.7 percent in 2024.
